Journaling to create

I recently read Nancy Crow's new book. It is a gorgeous work of art in itself. The photography and lay out, everything works to bring her work into even clearer focus. I've got to admit, I found the reprints of her hand-written notes and sketches the most revealing; often thinking they were surprisingly simplistic and incremental. Then, last week, I found myself in a similar position, journaling away about the process I was immersed in while creating "Bubble Garden". Since some of my pieces involve working with unusual materials - making quilts without fabric - they often involve much trial and error. Sometimes the search for the materials is half the battle. The other half is the technical aspect of construction. Then, when I've figured out how to assemble it, I've got to make it in a way that will "read" visually.
